On a sunny June morning, the U9s put on yet another amazing team performance in a game which was as exciting to watch as it seemed for the team to play

Solo captain for today’s match, Reece Boadey, took the field together with the starting lineup of Charlie, Josh T, Dan T, Ryan, Becca, Kyle, Ethan and Max.

Rochdale are a powerful team but right from the start Pilks defensive line held solid, some big hits from Charlie Swift, Kyle Prescott and Reece Boadey together with great tackling all round and Rochdale despite extensive efforts were unable to get over the line.

Pilks then provided some great team passing the ball with Daniel Tabern darting past the Mayfield team to score his first great try of the match.

Mayfield then tried to attack our wings but some awesome defensive by Max Tracey, Joshua Thiselton and Rebecca Benthom kept them at bay, Daniel Tabern then scoring his second try of the game.

After holding up Mayfield over the line Ryan White made a fabulous break to put Pilks in again. Quick change over and Mayfield, who were still competing strongly took advantage of our team still getting into the match to score their only try of the first half. However Pilks hit back straight away with Charlie Swift powering over and the first half finished 4-1.

The second half saw Rochdale start strongly; great tackling by Aaron Cranny, Ethan Moore and Joshua Burton kept Mayfield out. They then defended well despite some excellent runs by Cameron Cranny, Jacob Wilding and Sam Caddick, and eventually Mayfield got the better of our defense and went over for their 2nd try of the match.

After that Pilks held strong, some great plays of the ball to the wing put Luc Holloway over for a great try. Defending brilliantly again , some great challenges by Charlie Swift and Jack Bailey, and after holding Mayfield up over the line a couple more times on the final play of the ball Kyle Prescott powered over for Pilks final try and the game finished 6-2

A superb performance against one of the toughest oppositions to date and Pilks are moving from strength to strength.. They’re a pleasure to watch and big congratulations to Chris and Graham who have built such a great side.
