Pilks u9s met their match today when they came up against tough opponents in a well turned out Waterhead team

Captains today were Daniel Tabern and Ethan Moore.

Starting lineup of Dan t, Ethan, Rebecca, Kian, Sam, Reece, Luc, Aaron and Kyle put up a massive defensive first set with some huge tackles by Kyle Prescot, Ethan Moore and Reece Boadey keeping Waterhead just short of the line and setting the scene for the rest of the match.

Great forward runs followed by Sam Caddick, Kian Hurst and Aaron Cranny gave Pilks great field position but Waterheads defense held strong.

More of the same followed with both teams defending their line well, and it took Daniel Tabern with his speed and quick side step to break the Waterhead line and cross for Pilks first try of the match.

Quick team change and JB, Charlie, Ryan, Josh B, Josh T, Max, Jacob, Thomas and Dan S took to the field.

Waterhead quickly put the pressure on but fantastic tackles by Max Tracey, Charlie Swift and Jack Bailey kept them out. Daniel Sutton, Jacon Wilding and Thomas Fenton-Brown got Pilks up the field and Joshua Burton made a break and scored a great solo try, with Pilks now leading 2-0 at half time.

The second half started strong, Rebecca Benthom put in some amazing tackles and was unlucky not to score, Waterhead managing to get her into touch before she could get the ball down. Luc Holloway, Ethan Moore and Reece Boadey made some great runs but Waterhead again prevented them from crossing the line.

It took a team change and a great run by Ryan White to open the second half scoring for Pilks.

Despite Pilks best efforts Waterhead were next to score, a try quickly wiped out by Ryan Whites second of the match. Some fantastic runs from Joshua Thiselton, Joshua Burton and Max Tracey got Pilks to the line but they were unable to break the defense.

Waterhead then had a great spell crossing the line twice and with Waterhead playing the last set of the game the score was 4-3 to Pilks and we needed a great defensive effort to keep the winning margin, Waterhead headed to the wing and Joshua Thiselton and Charlie Swift didn’t let us down, tackling the player into touch and the game finished 4-3 to Pilks.

Well done to all the team, and to Waterhead who proved to be great opponents.
