An absolutely enthralling game

Sunday morning saw two local rivals go head to head in what turned out to be an absolutely enthralling game of rugby league.
Pilks entertained Haydock ,in what is always a hard fought, close game. Today was no different with both sides competing well for a 8-8 scoreline. The game saw both sides score some excellent try's, and put in some fantastic defensive displays.
In the first half Recs went down 4-5 in a very evenly fought half. All week in training we've been working on some passing moves. All the boys seemed to take it on board , and used it well to there advantage, scoring some wonderful try's, each coming from some great passing.
The first try came from Codey Massam , after a brilliantly timed pass out wide by Liam Coughlin ,out to Codey ,who used his strength and power to go in, in the corner.
Two more try's went to Jake Abel , again after some good , fast passing , resulting in Jake adding to his ever increasing tally.
Our last try of the half went to Logan King , after some great link up play between Codey Massam and Keiron Williams creating a gap for Logan to use his pace to go in through the middle.
Apart from the fast attacking play ,in the first half , some of Pilks defence was much better than of late which was very pleasing as coaches. With some great tackling from Archie Parkins , Codey Massam and Jake Abel .
At half time we stressed the importance of the defence as we could see the game was going to be very close.
In the second half the boys responded really well, holding Haydock to just 3 try's to our 4 , which is a massive improvement on recent performances.
Pilks scorers were Jake Abel completing yet another hat trick, after a really strong run and off load from Ross Keogh , using his strength to draw in defenders and feed Jake a perfect pass to leave him with space to run into.
Liam Coughlin scored a try that his performance deserved after some great passing between Logan and Codey, creating space for Liam to go over.
Our final two try's came from Codey Massam , the first after a great dummy that the whole defence bought , leaving a huge gap for him to score. The second another great pass from Logan, putting Codey through .to complete his hat trick.
Special mentions go to.
Ross Keogh, who again is getting better every week and did some really strong running.
Keiron Williams, who was brilliant at dummy half, and again showed bravery in defence.
Archie Parkins, who ended up bloodied again but got up and carried on tackling.
Sunday's special awards went to:-
TOP TACKLER:-
Again this was really close but it went to Codey Massam , who with 14 tackles and 3 try's had his best game this season.
PARENTS CHOISE :-
Was also close but in the end went to Jake Abel who also scored 3 and was excellent in defence.
All in all, a really enjoyable game of rugby, played in good spirit that everyone watching must have been really proud of the boys .
A great effort from all the lads on Fathers day making it a great start to a perfect day.
WELL DONE BOYS , KEEP IT UP!
