A massive improvement in attitude

Today Pilks Recs u9's entertained a well drilled Westhoughton side, packed full of big, strong ,quick players.
Firstly, as coaches we'd like to thank the Lions for giving us two players to even up the teams. Each player we had did your club proud.
After what was a pretty poor display all round last week, a few things were discussed in training. I have to say the boys responded really well in training, and especially today. We may have gone down 10 - 4 on the score sheet but the attitude and team spirit was much better, and all the boys can hold their heads high after this performance.
The first half was a very close affair, which Westhoughton edged 4 try's to 3,with Pilks showing great effort in defence , togetherness and superb team spirit.
Pilks' try's came first from Codey Massam with a brilliant full length try, showing great speed to leave the defence in his wake after a superb pass from Logan King. The second came after a some brilliant passing created space for Kyle Dancer to use his blistering pace to go in ,in the corner.
Our last try of the half came from Jake Abel, using his speed , strength and tricky feet to dance through the defence.
The second half started with a tired looking Recs defence letting in three quick try's, eventually going down 6-1, but again showing lots of fight and spirit.
Our only try of the half coming from Logan King , after a barnstorming run through the heart of the lions defence that they simply couldn't handle.
Special mentions today go to :-
Ross Keogh , who took the ball up well, and got involved in defence.
Liam Coughlin , who, as every week ran strong and made big meters for the team.
Keiron Williams , who gets better every week and had his best game this season.
Special awards today went to.
Top Tackler went to Codey Massam , who tackled courageously all game narrowly edging out both Logan and Jake.
Parents Choice went to Keiron Williams , who showed great strength in defence , bravery in attack and is becoming a great dummy half.
All in all , apart from the first few sets of the second half, a really close, enjoyable game of rugby , played in great spirit between two great sets of players.
The Pilks lads can hold their heads high after today , in the knowledge they did everyone proud.
Well done boys, KEEP IT UP !
