Showing promising signs

Today, Recs U8's entertained a very pacey , well drilled , Ashton blacks side , on a lovely spring morning. The game was played in great spirit between two very evenly matches sides. Although Ashton eventually ran out 12-7 winners, the game was end to end all the way through with both sides trading tries until late on when Pilks ran out of steam.
As a coach ,I asked the lads for a big effort today, to work as a team, and to support each other throughout. I have to say that each and every one of them did everything I asked and more, and I'm proud of every single one of them.
The early stages were end to end with both teams scoring two early tries apiece . Pilks tries coming from James Hatton after one of his superb trademark mazy runs. The second from Josh Hunt who again showed unbelievable pace and power to maintain his great start to the season.
The second quarter , Ashton took the lead early and edged it 3-1. Pilks try coming from Aaron King with his first try of the season, doing exactly as I've asked him, finding a gap and using his speed to race away from the Blacks defence.
The third quarter saw Ashton edge it 3-2 in another closely fought period of the game. Recs scorers were, Josh Hunt with another massive effort to take four defenders over the line with him, and Connor Stubbs who ,once again showed great strength and speed to add to his impressive try tally this season.
The last quarter ended 4-2 to Ashton ,with Pilks running out of steam in the end. Recs tries came from Connor Stubbs ,again showing great strength and power to carry defenders over the line with him. And finally from Aaron King , who somehow managed to jink his way through the tough Ashton defence.
Mentioning the try scorers today seems unfair to the rest of the lads who worked tirelessly both with the ball ,but especially in defence. Even though we concede 12 tries, I think at times we were excellent.
Special mentions today also go to .

My captain for today was Jak Davies, who was playing only his second game , but led from the front ,charging the ball in ,making valuable yards for the team.

Noah Heaton, again never stopped tackling, love his attitude to rugby, he's an absolute joy to coach.

Harvey Cathcart, who loves nothing more than charging in with the ball at pace at every opportunity. Today was no different, he was great today.

Ethan Cranny , who today got stuck in in defence making some big tackles and ran the ball in well all day.

Today's awards went to.

TOP TACKLER , This could have gone to any one of the lads , but it went to Billy Traynor. Billy , every week gives 100% in both defence and attack but some of his last ditch tackling today on lads much bigger than him was superb.

PARENTS CHOICE M.O.M went to Aaron King . He had his best game so far this season. He's running with the ball not only got him two tries but also made valuable meters for the team . He also got stuck in , in defence.

All in all , though conceding 12 tries the lads really worked well as a team today, and if they carry this attitude forward , I can only see massive improvement for the team.

Well done boys.
KEEP IT UP!
