Pilks made to work hard for win at Latchford Albion

It was a battle for a top 4 place in Warrington against a big Latchford Albion side who were a top 4 side in the North West Men’s Premier Division last season.
It was an evenly matched contest in the first 15 minutes of the game were both packs were going toe to toe in very hot conditions. The first score came from a Chris Clayton special a close barge over near the line rob marsh converted to make it 6-0. Latchford soon hit back with a try of the their own when Ryan Liptrot lost the ball close to his own line and Latchford picked it up to score out wide to make it 6-4 conversion missed.
Pilks started to dominate a 50 metre break from centre Luke Riley set up field position for great hands by Alex Mcclurg to send u18s scrum half Owen Abel to race 30 metres to score to make conversion missed to make the score 10-6.
The game went back and forth as both sides had opportunities to score.some last ditch try saving tackles by u18s fullback Alex Fitzhenry kept Pilks in the lead until two minutes before half time when Latchford scored a close range effort to make the score all square at half time.

Pilks came out fighting in the second half as Phil Riley put a kick through for his brother Luke who picked it up off his boot laces and flicked the ball to Elliot Dennett to score his 1st try of the afternoon in the corner conversion missed 14-10.
Next to score was Stu Appleton who picked the ball up from dummy half to scoot over to score his first try for the club. Rob Marsh converted 20-10.
Latchford again responded with another close range effort to make the game 20-16.Pilks reacted when Alex McLurg broke down the middle of the field to put the supporting Owain Abel under the sticks to make the game, Owain Abel converted to make it 26-16.
Latchford then hit back with another converted try to make the game 26- 22 with 10 minutes to play.Then up stepped Luke Riley playing his first game at centre who chucked a Jamie Lyon style pass out to his winger Elliot Dennett who dove in the corner to make the scoreline 30-22 with 4 minutes left.
Latchford got the ball back and scored another close range effort to make the score 30-28 in Pilks’ favour with 2 minutes left on the clock.
As the red amber and blacks defence held firm and collected the 2 points with a hard earned win and are on 12 points for the season tied with 3 other clubs in 2nd. Man of the match went to Chris Clayton with special mentions too for Alex Fitzhenry and Owain Abel from the under 18s. Next game is Widnes Tigers away next Saturday
