Pilkington Recs A beat Rangers for first win in Division Two
Pilkington Recs A claimed their first win of the season after a 22-18 win over Manchester Rangers at Ruskin Drive.
It was a competitive game where the wind played a factor in a blustery afternoon in St Helens.
Pilks started well and got their reward when Owain Abel danced through the defence to score. Rob Marsh scored the conversion to give Pilks a six point lead.
Then half way through the first half, Pilks were able to grab another try as Connor Hesketh managed to dive over from short range. Marsh missed the conversion, but it was still a 10 point lead.
However, Manchester got back into the game and got their try with ten minutes left of the half. They missed the conversion however, but the deficit had been reduced to six points going into the break.
The reprieve wouldn't last long however as six minutes into the second half, Stu Appleton capped off a fine break by getting a try. Marsh was on target with the conversion to extend their lead to 12 points.
But Manchester weren't done yet and grabbed two tries in six minutes to bring themselves back to within two points, however they could have been level had the second conversion been landed.
It was a tense few minutes, but Pilks grabbed that daylight try they were looking for as Conor Mulcahy went through a gap to score. Marsh kicked the conversion to give the home side an eight point lead with ten minutes to go.
Manchester would have the last word, grabbing a try four minutes later, but Pilks held out for the final few minutes to claim victory.
Pilks are now back to winning ways after defeat at Westhoughton Lions last week. They will hope to back up todays win when they welcome Leigh Miners Rangers A to Ruskin Drive next Saturday.
