Newbies v Woolston Rovers Greens
In the penultimate game of the season, Pilks headed to Cheshire to face Warrington based opponent, Woolston Rovers Greens.
A very different game to last week, Pilks started more tentatively than usual in defence but attacked as they are renowned for matching Rovers try for try in a back and forth contest. The Recs eventually broke the deadlock midway through the match scoring three unanswered tries and taking a stronghold that Rovers were simply unable to overcome. Newbies recording their fourth win in a row and sixth out of seven games this season.
Ruby A carried her form from last week – four tries taking her to tally to an impressive nine in two games and for the second week in a row being named player of the match by opposition coaches.
Also in the tries this week were Sam P, Theo K, Theo BM, Tommy, Reuben, Freddie and Oban with a try of the season contender that involved playing the ball to himself half way through his run!
The strength in depth of the red, amber and gold squad was once more to the fore, Tyler, Sam C, Jackson and Finley giving their all in attack and defence.
A particularly strong day was had by both Toby and Lillie, the duo receiving coaches’ awards for star and most improved player respectively with tough tackling and no nonsense running on display.
In the season finale scheduled for next Sunday, our heroes take on local rivals Thatto Heath in a game not to be missed.
