In this hard fought battle, the strength in depth of the newbies squad was more evident than ever before with a second victory of the day making pleasant viewing for coaches Cole and Moores who saw the hard work on the training ground come to fruition once more.
Theo Khozouie set the tone for strong defence early on in this game allowing no one past, unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet today, Theo made opportunities for others with his superb off-load ability.
Samuel Palfreeman was suitably incentivised to make both his father and the opposition pay dearly with a 4 try haul and enthusiastic defence.
Theo Boylan-McCann channelled his inner Luke Thompson with his strong running causing havoc in the hornets’ ranks whilst also grabbing two tries in the process.
Issac Sharratt crossed the whitewash for his first try in Pilks colours to the delight of the crowd and also ably assisted his team with robust defence throughout.
Lillie Martindale showed great courage to play on after injury. Her strong running and determination to cover every blade of grass clearly inspiring the rest of the team towards triumph.
Ruby Atherton was absolutely on fire and became simply too hot for the hornets to handle, scorching in for 5 tries which alongside her dominant defence deservedly led to recognition from the opposition coaches who named her their player of the match.
Special mention to both Jackson Cole and Tommy Moores for playing their second games of the day and showing no fatigue as both tackled strongly and combined for three tries between them.
A resilient performance from this team to run out deserved winners.
