Spectacular sportsmanship shines throughout

As the fog descended on Orrell ground, Pilks rose up today and were an indomitable force in freezing conditions.

Taking on the undefeated Orrell side, Pilks displayed incredible skills in attack, swift passing and hard running. The fabulous five, Tommy, Jackson, Lillie, Ruby and Sam C took on six opponents for the first 15 minutes ensuring a tightly contested start to the match. As Orrell acclimatised to the conditions, Pilks were straight in with a try from Tommy showing the opposition that they meant business.

Our five soon became the super six as Riley Critchley bravely rejoined his teammates showing his supersonic speed as he danced around the Orrell defence leaving them for dust.

Tornado, Tommy Moores, triumphed as opposition Player of the Match – thoroughly deserved - with his spectacular 7 tries and fearless tackling that had the Orrell side running scared.

Ruby Atherton performed a double-act in both attack and defence, leading to a magical try and opposition coaches’ award for her staunch performance.
Lillie Martindale gave Orrell a lesson in how to pass, making numerous offloads with speed and precision, which led to success for Pilks.

Jackson Cole marshalled the troops again ensuring his teammates were in position and, as ever, showed unflinching resolve with his devastating defence – despite the Baltic conditions. Sam Critchley displayed superb skill in attack today offloading to his teammates when necessary and wrong footing the defence to get two well-deserved tries.

As the temperatures dropped further and hands turned to ice, unfortunately, the sheer number of Orrell players meant that they won by just one try.

However, Coach Cole beamed with pride as Pilks reeked havoc with tackles, toppled the try count and displayed true sportsmanship throughout. They demonstrated outstanding teamwork, always set and ready for attack, cheering each other on and applauding the opposition when they scored – playing the game in the spirit it was intended.

Pilks were the winners today in every way that counts.

THE FUTURE OF PILKS IS BRIGHT.
