u8’s v Leigh Miners
On a beautiful St. Helens morning it was fantastic to see grassroots rugby league make a long anticipated return and superb to see the boys and girls back in action. Looking splendid in their new red, amber and black kits the team welcomed Leigh Miners to Ruskin Park.
In an electrifying game of all-out attack, Pilks narrowly missed out on victory to a very well organised Miners side. The result mattered not with the coaching team thrilled with the effort and never say die attitude from every single player after such a long time away from any competitive rugby. The joy on the kids’ faces at being back on the field was something to behold.
Man of the match Sam P was in scintillating form crossing the whitewash with almost every touch of the ball and registering six tries.
Credit goes to all the team for persistence in attack and defence with special mentions to debutant Daniel, named by the opposition as top tackler with a number of bone-crunching efforts
