u8’s v Oldham St Anne’s
Intrepid parents and children packed up the cars and treated themselves to a lovely drive across the M62 this morning. All managing to arrive on time apart from head honcho, Coach Cole.
Taking on a 19 strong outfit, our boys and girls once again gave it their all. After some early trading of tries, Pilks unfortunately entered half time 10 – 4 down. A spirited response in the second stanza brought the game much closer. As always it wasn’t the result that mattered but the way the game was played. Just as the previous week there was lovely individual and team skill displayed on both sides in a thoroughly entertaining game.
Freddie showed us what he does in training every week and scorched in for not one, not two, not three, not four but FIVE wonderful tries. Also putting in a great stint in defence, Freddie could not be ignored by the Oldham coaching team who awarded him their man of the match. Star player Sam C was a colossus upfront with powerful running and offload skills to the fore. Congratulations to both.
Special mention to Jackson aka ‘twinkle toes’ for his brace of tries. At one point he span so many times he looked like an out of control tornado, leaving a number of parents dizzy on the side-line from what they had just seen.
As we have come to expect, every member of the red, amber and gold made a telling contribution in both attack and defence with the level of skill in challenging weather conditions something to behold. Bring on next week!
