u8’s v Waterhead Warriors
Another early morning jaunt took Pilks once again to Oldham, this time to take on a Waterhead Warriors side strong in numbers.
Looking more organised than ever before, a truly remarkable defensive display was testament to the work put in on the training field. Despite Waterhead’s ability to play a new team with fresh legs in the second stanza, keeping the home team nigh on scoreless was not the only talking point of the morning. Throwing the ball with confidence the Pilks’ attack was a beauty to behold, with training pitch set moves working brilliantly to befuddle the warriors.
Opposition player of the match went to Jackson, like a bull in a china shop he charged with purpose, always looking to twist and turn and find the all-important offload but also displaying his sportsman attitude to help warriors’ players when injured.
Star player Sam P took complete control of the game. Usually renowned for his try scoring ability, today it was try creation as he laid on two lovely scores and was dangerous with the ball in hand all game.
The outstanding display was recognised by a Waterhead coach who made time to speak to the Pilks team after the game, he remarked that they should be very proud of themselves and that though seriously outnumbered, everyone had played their hearts out, played for each other, were a credit to the coach and parents and that they would go far if they stuck together.
In short - a superb team performance from the red, amber and black.
