u8’s v Orrell St James
Ruskin Drive greeted well respected outfit Orrell St James to face our heroes dressed in the famous red, amber and black colours.
A topsy turvy game was certainly in line with the old adage a game of two halves. Pilks were brilliant in the opening twenty minutes and shocked the visiting team by taking what appeared to be a comfortable lead.
Unfortunately the ability of Orrell to play a new team each ten minutes saw the fresh legs overwhelm our tiring boys and girls with a well earned draw the final result with a dramatic equalising score by Pilks in the last set of the game.
In this incredibly tough game it was evident that the performance level is improving each week with every member of the side playing for each other and determined to do their best for their teammates.
Opposition player of the match went once again to Ruby, her strong running a sight to behold as she charged time and again. Star man went to Reuben who was a titan in defence chalking up over 20 tackles in defence of the pilks try line.
The quality of the game far outweighted the mathematics of the coaching team who struggled to set out the pitch failing to grasp the difference between metres and yards – most embarrassing for both involved who will remain nameless.
