Pilkington Recs recorded their sixth win their last seven games with a 30-18 win over Hull Dockers away from home.
It wasn't an ideal start for Pilks, as they lost fullback Callum Derrick to an ankle injury in the warm up, which forced a bit of a reshuffle.
It was a clunky start to the game, but the visitors eventually broke the deadlock with 18 minutes on the clock. Jamie Smith got the ball from dummy half and went himself close to the line and got over by the post. Kyran Knapper added the conversion for a six-point lead.
Just three minutes later, Smith was in again. This time, he was there to finish a great move out on the right-hand side. Knapper converted to double Pilks' lead.
Just past the half-hour, the hosts got back into it, thanks to a try from the fullback. The conversion attempt was good, meaning the deficit was halved.
Just three minutes after they were pegged back, Pilks got their 12-point lead back. A brilliant offload managed to give Jake Topping some space to go through and score the try. Knapper was again on target with the conversion attempt.
Hull Dockers did score again with the last act of the first half to make it a six-point game again at the halfway point.
Just before the hour mark, Smith was in again to complete his hat-trick. Again, he decided to go himself close to the line and managed to get over. Knapper maintained his perfect record with the boot.
The hosts went for a short kick off after that, and it paid off for them as they got the field position to score their third try. Once again, the kick was good to keep the Dockers in contention.
But with 15 minutes left on the clock, Pilks got themselves further ahead again. Harry Coleman managed to spin out of the tackle and find the floor to score his first league try of the season. Knapper again converted to get Pilks up to 30 points.
That was the way it stayed, and Pilks are now up to fourth in Division Two. They now have a week off before welcoming Barrow Island to Ruskin Drive.
