Pilkington Recs suffered a second straight defeat to start the new season, as they were beaten at home to Wigan St Patricks.
It was hardly an ideal start for Pilks, who fell behind in less than a minute. That soon became 8-0 after 15 minutes.
Having huffed and puffed for a lot of the first half, Pilks finally got on the board just before the break. Ryan Lockett managed to get through a gap and score. Tom Connick knocked over the conversion to make it a two-point game at the break.
But St Pats started the second half with two tries in ten minutes to all but take the game away from the hosts.
With 12 minutes left, Pilks got on the board to give themselves a flicker of hope. Lewis Davies made a barnstorming run through the middle, and Warren Paladino, who was playing the halves, supported him to go over for the try. Connick added the conversion.
But Pats added two more tries in quick succession, as the game threatened to get away from Pilks.
But they would add a bit more respectability to the scoreline. Ben O'Connell put a grubber kick in, but the ball rebounded to him, and he ran through for the try. Connick would add the conversion.
Pilks will be hoping to bounce back next Saturday when they travel to Dewsbury Moor.
