Pilkington Recs got themselves off the mark in the NCRL First Division with victory against East Leeds.
Things hadn't gotten off to an ideal start, with the visitors opening the scoring inside three minutes, the hooker getting over from dummy half. The conversion was made as well.
It was just past the 20 minute mark when Pilks found a response. After winning a penalty close to the line, Warren Paladino drove forward and found the line for his third try of the season. Tom Connick added the conversion to level the game.
Just past the half hour, Pilks scored again. This time, it was a moment of brilliance from Phil Riley, who got the ball in midfield, was able to jink free from the first line of defence and got around the fullback to score under the posts. Connick again added the conversion.
Pilks got what felt like a crucial score right on half-time, and it was the debutant Keenan Parr who went over after Pilks created an overlap. Connick added the conversion.
But there was one final twist before half-time, with East Leeds grabbing one back after Pilks pushed up too far in defence. The conversion was missed, meaning it was 18-10 at the break.
Things got worse for East Leeds when they had a man sent off after they had given away a penalty for dissent. Another man was also put in the sin bin for the same incident.
Soon after, Pilks made their advantage count, with Lewis Griffiths getting over in the corner. Connick missed the conversion this time.
Just four minutes later, Pilks added another, this time it was Tyler Duberry on the other wing who managed to get free and go over for his first try of the year. Connick was back on target.
Keen to drive home their advantage, Pilks added another. Jamie Smith was able to spin out of a tackle and find the floor. Connick was able to convert.
East Leeds then had another man sent to the sin bin for a high tackle, but they would add another try before the afternoon was out.
Straight after that try, the referee ended the game.
Pilks now have a week off before facing Shaw Cross Sharks away.
