Pilks U8's turned up eager play even though it was cold, wet and the pitch was boggy and heavy under foot.
The match could not of started worse for Pilks conseeding a try from the very first play of the ball, but this was not the tone of match as tries were very hard to come by hence the score.
After the early shock of consceeding a try the players attitude could not have been better and they were actually more physical than their much bigger opponents.
Most of the first half was played in Moorfields territory but with Widnes defending well, it was only late in the first half Pilks managed to score making the half time score 1 try a piece.
The second half was pretty much the same as the first with Pilks making it very difficult for Moorfield to get out of their own half and it was only a great individual try from one of the Moorfield big lads that won the game for the widnes side.
Both sides had great go forward with some great passing at times and both teams were guilty of forcing the pass at times, resulting in knock on's but if your a fan who like to watch a defensive game then this was the game for you and everyone involved can be very proud of themselves.
Honorary captain Jack McIntyre did himself proud really Stepping up his defence, scoring Pilks only try of the match and walking away with the Player of the Match award
Nathan Flynn was awarded the hotly contested Tackler of the match award not only for the sheer volume of tackles but also for a stand out one on one try saving tackle against a much bigger player after chasing him down nearly the full length of the pitch.
Joseph Hunter was awarded Parents Choice award taking the ball up with fearless abandonment showing the promise that he was starting to show at the end of last season.
Callum Taylor was great again this week strong in both attack and defence with a hand off that is as powerfull as any player at this age.
Mackenzie Smith showed his passing skills with his quick offload from first receiver
George Donoghue took the ball in really well and really got stuck in with his tackling taking what he did on the training ground into his match day performance
Rhys Edwards another player who came on leaps and bounds last year again ran strong with ball in hand and did his bit in defence
Dezi Wilkinson with his strong straight running style seemed to take at least 3 or 4 players with him every run and again really got stuck in with his tackling
Ryan Halsall ran straight and strong down the middle like he was asked to do and also like the rest of the seemed to be having fun tackling.
Both me and Dave are very proud of all the boys in tough conditions and are looking forward to this season.
We would like to thank the people who volunteered today with the stats and the photos it is really appreciated
Great team effort boys keep it up
