Victory in Victoria park

A full strength Pilks side went to Latchford last Sunday only to find a Latchford team low on numbers, with Latchford only having 4 players the two teams combined forces to make the best of the situation.

Pilks split into two teams and two of each of the Latchford players were put on either side and the game was started.

Credit to all the players it was played in good spirit and all the children welcomed the opposition players with open arms.
It was a great day for rugby nice and sunny and the game was a well spirited close encounter.

The first half was a game for the attack minded players and finished 5 tries to 3 but the second half was the complete opposite with defences being the main focus and tries were hard to come by, hence the reason why the second half finished 1 try a piece.

Honorary Captain Joseph Hunter kept up his good form with some great running straight down the middle of the pitch.

Player of the match Dezi Wilkinson was choosen by the parents for a very strong game in attack and defence.

Tackler of the match Rhys Edwards really upped his game in defence and won this award on shear volume of tackles and also scored a try.

Parents choice Ryan Halsall got his scoring tally off with a bang this week scoring four tries and was strong again in defence this week.

Jack Mckintyre has really got to grips with the physical side of the game since the season has began and also continues with his good attack with 2 tries.

Nathan flynn scored 2 tries this week and was also up there in the tackle count, again another good performance from such a good consistant player.

Rohan Heyes another good consistant player who gives his all week in week out, on both sides of the ball and this week was no exception.

George Donoghue is improving week by week and looking at the tackle count this week he was up there with the top tacklers.

Callum Taylor really impressed me this week by proving he is really listening in training, as we have been working on running onto the ball which he did very well and as usual ran strong and tackled hard.

Because of the unusual situtation the game was played in and we used the parents choice to pick the man of the match, on the way home it started to sink in what had happened in the match and I began to think not all players were judged on their own performance and two players came to the forefront of my mind, these two players were Ben Lynch and Mackenzie Smith by their own standards were exceptional so as a one off we thought the only fair thing to do is award these two players with a most improved award.

Well done keep it up
