A game of two halves

Due illness and holidays Pilks turned up at Ashton a bit under strengthened with only 7 players available and Ashton with a good sized squad, Pilks borrowed two players from Ashton for the full duration of the game.

With such good numbers we knew we was up against a good side but it didn't help that Pilks, even in warm up weren't quite themselves.
Known for their slow starts this week was going to be no exception and on a wide pitch Pilks were guilty of defending too narrow and in a half that Ashton dominated, it was the edge defence that let Pilks down and time and time again Pilks did the hard work and kept out Ashton for five tackles only to be caught out on the fringes.
The first half finished Ashton 5 -1 Pilks

The second half is an example why I love this team so much and why me and Dave have such belief in this set of young players, when they should have been tired and most teams would have let their heads go down Pilks didn't, they upped the anti and started to play like we know they can and it didn't take long for Pilks to start scoring and making stops in a second half that was a credit to both teams, Pilks had picked themselves up and the half finished 4 tries apiece.

Its this never say die attitude and playing just because they love to play that will set these players in good stead for the future.

Honorary captain Rhys Edwards had another good game this week adding another try to his tally

Player of the match Nathan Flynn made some great runs again this week and was also top of the tackle count.

Tackler of the match Jack McIntyre is proving week by week what a good player he is in both attack and defence adding another try to his tally

Parents choice Rohan Heyes was asked to do a job in the second half which probably impacted his stats a little bit but this did not stop him scoring 2 tries and I believe he was a facture in stopping up conceding tries on the wing. He was also picked out by their coaches as our best player.

Joseph Hunter was great again this week in attack taking the ball straight down the middle of the pitch regardless of who is in front of him.

George Donoghue ran strong again this week and even after he got hurt, his response was to get up and make a good strong tackle.

Ryan Halsall ran strong again this week making good positive yards was high on the tackle count and chipped in with a try

This weeks featured player is Rhys Edwards

When I look at the stats I am really impressed to see so many try scorers proving this in not a one man team
Well done keep it up
