Valiant to the end

For the second time this year the children were asked to partake in a minutes silence, this time for 29 year old Keighley Cougers player who died while playing the game he loved. Both sets of players and everyone around did his memory proud and the game to follow did everyone involved proud as well.

This week was yet again a challenge for a Pilks side still a bit short on numbers with only eight players available, this ment all eight players had to do the full thirty minutes against a Salford side boasting good numbers.
After asking for volunteer's to make the game 9 a side there was none forth coming, so this ment the game was played with 8 players a piece.

The first half was a defensive struggle with both sides finding it hard to gain ground and in my mind opinon Pilks doing a great job in controlling some much bigger players.
Pilks drew first blood but could not hold the lead and the first half finished 1 try a piece.

The second half again was a defencive strugggle and both teams started to do a few set moves to try and unlock strong two good defences.
Uncharacteristically of this Pilks team some of the players were a bit guilty of letting their heads go down, but ultimately it was the fact we gave up the ball early in the tackle count on four occasion's that was Pilks undoing, having said that Pilks were in the game right upto the last set of six.

With both teams having one set each left and the game poised at 3 - 2, Pilks had to make a stop and score to end the game in a draw but unfortunatly a tired Pilks team let a try in on the second tackle and failed to convert their chance into points and the game finished 4 - 2 to Salford.

Honorary Captain George Donoghue lead from the front with some great runs and was inches off scoring his first try which I am sure is not to far away.

Player of the match Rohan Heyes just keep producing every week in both attack and defence bagging himself another try this week.

Rhys Edwards Tackler of the week was so impressive in defence this week not only with the most tackles but showing great technique.

Prents choice Jack McIntyre showed his competive side this week getting frustrated with himself for in my opinion no reason, he did everything he was asked to do ran strong, tackled well and scored a try what more can anyone ask.

Joseph Hunter ran well again this week and made a nusiance of himself in defence pushing players back has they tried to avoid his attention.

Ben Lynch was great in attack and probably having his best attcking game to date.

Nathan Flynn and Ryan Halsall both put in good numbers in the tackle count and both made great yards every time they got the ball.
