Pilks buck the Broncos

Pilks made the journey down the M60 to Bury on Sunday and although a bit on the chilly side, lucky for us the rain stayed off long enough for a great game of rugby.

Pilks faced a Bury side which boasted good number's but by their own admittance this was a side with a few younger players and three children on there debut, so with all this taken in to consideration and although Pilks have a couple of players who only have a couple of games under there belts, this was still a very good performance by the Broncos and I am sure given time will turn out to be a good side.

All that being said this was a game that Pilks did deserve to win and all the work in training is starting to pay off.
In the first half Pilks were playing up the hill which for these young players must be hard, but this did not stop Pilks putting in a good first half performance and the game was in the balance with some great defence from both side's and tries were hard to come by, as a result the first half finished two tries to one in Pilks favour.

At half time we talked about having the hill in our favour and to work on our set up runs before doing a set move.
In the second half the players did everything that was asked of them and as a result it was an almost faultless display in the second half and only conceded one break away try, when the players were asked what happened the reply came he was really fast ( lol ) and we all know speed kills.

What was really pleasing for the coaches was how Pilks moved up fast pushing Bury back time and time again and also showing good tacking technique, both of these things we have been working on in training.
The second half finished four tries to one in Pilks favour.

Honorary captain Sam Neviit was also awarded our Parent's choice award with a great attacking display, with some big runs and scoring his first try for the club.

Player of the match Rhys Edwards was out standing this week, relentless in defence scoring three tries and was picked out by their coaches as our stand out player.

Tackler of the match Max Nevitt the youngest player on our squad and still only played two matches was joint top tackler this makes you wonder what this child is going to be like in by the end of the season.

Joseph Hunter hurt his knee this week so couldn't get into the flow as well as he usually does but this didn't stop him making some good runs.

Ben Lynch is struggling at the minute with confidence but this didn't stop him making a great run side stepping past players to make good yards, don't be so hard on yourself.

Nathan Flynn was great again this week up there on the tackle count and was unlucky not to score after an impressive jinking run at the heart of the Bury defence.

Ryan Halsall made some great yards with strong and determined runs straight down the middle of the pitch and was unlucky not to score after being stopped millimetre's off the line.

George Donoghue another player stopped so close to the line it was heart breaking, nevermind pal I am sure your first try is just round the corner.

Rohan Heyes added another try to his tally and again was up there on the tackle count, Rohan is a player who really does put his body on the line in virtually every tackle.

Jack McIntyre is a pleasure to watch, scoring again this week he is a player who puts everything into every tackle and every run and does it with a smile on his face.
