Pilks have the midas touch

Pilks faced a relatively new but impressive Portico side today.

This was perfect morning for a game rugby league. The weather was great and both teams served up a treat in a very good tempered affair.
This week before the match we spoke about starting the game well and that is exactly what we did, early in the game defences were on top and points were hard to come by and although Pilks finished the first half four tries to two up, it was nip tuck all the way and Pilks didn't have it all their own way by any means.

The second half was a similar story but and both teams tightened up their defences and what was really pleasing for me and Dave was that we only conceded one try in the second half and the second half finished three tries to one in Pilks favour.

Honorary captain Max Nevitt took his first big hit today which rattled him a bit but all credit to him he shook it off and showed his bravery to come back on and still have an active roll in the game.

Player of the match Kyle Monteith was on his debut today and took everyone by surprise. You never know what your going to get from a child in their first game but to score a try, make positive yards on every play and to stand up in defence is probably more than anyone expects, but that's just what he did.

In a close run contest Tackler of the match was awarded to Joseph Hunter for one tackle in particular which was text book round the legs and one of those tackles all the players should look to and try to emulate.

Parents choice Dezi Wilkinson showed today why everyone as been asking when he is back, playing after a short time off due to holidays and stuff, he marked his first game back with two tries.

Ben Lynch had his best game I have seen him play today, running with confidence making great yards every time he took the ball in, well done.

Nathan Flynn had an outstanding game today he was top in the tackle count and he is becoming a player who really understands when to give a pass and when to keep it. Its this ability and his good feet make him such a good attacking threat.

Ryan Halsall ran hard and straight today and was a handful for the opposition , it was this strong running style that netted him his two tries

Rhys Edwards and Rohan Heyes had very similar games today both scored, both used their pace and side steps to cause Portico problems and both did there fair share of tackling.

Sam Nevitt put in a good solid performance again this week, his size and up right running style makes it very difficult for any defence to get to grips with him.

Jack McIntyre may not of crossed the white wash this week but this doesn't mean his effort's in both attack and defence went unnoticed, another good performance this week from Jack.

Last but not least this week is George Donoghue who in my opinion had his best game this week, he really stepped up his performance and was so unlucky just to miss out on the top tackler award but also it was strong determined runs and refusal to go down that really impressed me and Dave.
