Hard fought win as Chester showed they are real gladiators

Pilk's hosted Chester this week a relatively new team from a city that is not normally associated with the game of rugby league, but this doesn't mean they were a walk over quiet the opposite Chester turned up to play and had some big talented players.
With Pilk's having nine players and Chester having seven we asked the boy's for volunteer's and has usual we had plenty of lads put their hands up eager to get the chance to play against their mate's.

The first half was a real nail biter and both sides showed some great defence especially on the goal line both try lines were only breached once and the first half finished one try a piece.

The second half was a similar to the first with both sets of players giving it their all, tackling really well and the second half finished two one in Pilk's favour.

I thought today our lads who played for Chester did themselves and the club proud giving it their all, whether they had their shirt's the right way round or inside out. I also thought today we looked a bit sluggish and didn't look like the Pilks team we have been used to seeing in recent weeks but then I found out two of our players have been a bit under the weather of late and they still put their hands up to play and just before the match some of our players were a bit tetchy, it was as if the early ko didn't do them any favour's and I think today's performance although a little bit below par was still a good effort and a good win for the boy's.

Honorary Captain Kyle Montieth had another good game this week leading from the front, Kyle is a player with deceptive speed and is willing to put his body on the line.

Player of the match Ryan Halsall has been doubting his own ability lately so we have moved him back into the centre of the pitch when defending and this paid off today tackling strong, running hard and he even scored a try.

Tackler of the match Jack McIntyre was one of the first to volunteer to play for Chester ( much to the dismay of his dad Paul lol ) and was great again this week in his all-round performance.

Rohan Heyes was Parents choice this week as usual he guarded the wing like his life depended on it, he stands players up no matter how big they are and his speed and side step always cause's mayhem.

To answer your question Joseph Hunter you made eleven tackles and it wasn't just the amount of tackles he made that impressed me it was also the quality of the tackles to.

Ben Lynch made some great runs today making positive yards every time he received the ball.

Nathan Flynn was one of our player's who was a bit under the weather, but this did not stop him making good yards and he took a big hit that would have made a lot of players leave the field but not Nathan he just shook it off.

George Donoghue was the second of our players who was feeling a bit out of sort's, but this didn't show in his performance as he had one of his best attacking game's I have seen him play.

Dezi Wilkinson proved again this week why he has been so badly missed, doing his bit in both attack and defence also adding another two tries to his tally
