Victory at the vipers

Pilks U8's was away this week to Crosfield Vipers.
Pilks were in confident mood after stringing a few win's together and last weeks all round great team performance. The warm up went well and Pilks looked like they were up and ready to play.

To be fair this was a good game to watch and both teams scored some good tries and it was an end to end game that went down to the last couple of set's. From my point of view if we had been playing a less honest opposition like we have in other games, this match could have easily been a draw or even a loss.

Pilks were carrying the ball to loose and as a result spilled the ball on more than one occasion, also we ran in to touch on at least four occasions but thanks to the honesty of Tracy and her coaching staff they didn't insist on the turn over and it was nice to come across a team with the same values of our own, that they are only kids but more to the point they stuck to that principal even if it meant loosing the game, which as everyone knows we have done that ourselves and I know how hard it is not to send in your best runner when it's not his turn just to get the result.

So the first half was a tick for tack Crosfeilds would score a try and Pilks would respond with a try of their own, Crosfields would make a stop and Pilks would make a stop and so on as a result the first half three tries apiece.

The second half was much the same except for the last two set's when Pilks upped their defence to the sort of defence we expect from this Pilks side and made the stop, to out score Crosfields by four tries to three and winning the game.

The big plus for me this week was we scored a couple of tries from passes and again this week we had five different try scorers.

Honorary captain Dezi Wilkinson lead from the front and was one of the players who scored from an off load.

Player of the match George Donoghue received this award largely due to his strong determined runs and really looked this week like a player that is going to do his best to run over players every time he gets the ball.

Kyle Monteith scored two tries this week, but what really impressed me and Dave was the way he stood players up in the tackle especially in the first half.

Parents choice Rhys Edwards was great again this week, joint top again on the tackle count not bad for a lad who recently broke his finger.

Also among the scorers this week was Nathan Flynn, Rohan Heyes and Samual Nevitt.

With good games from Joseph Hunter, Ben Lynch, Maxwell Nevitt, Ryan Halsall and Jack McIntyre who made a top class try saving tackle, this team is still on the right track , well done boys keep it up

Featured player of the week is Dezi Wilkinson
