Imitation is the highest form of flattery

I would like to start this week's match report with an apology for the lack of match report last week but I think that everyone who was there will agree with me when I say some thing's are better left unsaid.

This week Pilk's faced a big Folly Lane side who had come to Pilk's to play the game in the spirit that it was intended and as a result we witnessed a great game of rugby.

This was quite a physical game and both sides had players who stayed down after some tough tackles, but to be fair every chid that did get hurt went got on with the game and made positive plays.
Some times in a game you just can't stop power so close to the line and this was case for Folly's first try, the response from Pilk's was good and immediately went and scored and this looked like it was going to be a hi scoring game with both teams making good ground on every possession, but this wasn't the case and defence's did tighten up and the only difference between the two team's in the first half was a disallowed try where Jack was deemed to have knocked on so the score line at the half was 3 tries to 2 in Folly Lanes favour.

The second half was a lot more defensive with both team's finding it hard to make ground, but yet again there is nothing you can do when a player as big and strong as the lad they had get's it so near the line.
With more good defence shown by both side's the killer blow came right near the end when Folly broke for the corner and after a great chase back from Jack the ref looked at me for a decision and to be honest it was so close whether or not he got the ball down before he was tackled in to touch I told the ref to give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team so this meant the second half finished 2 nil to Folly Lane.

Honorary captain Oliver Hollingsworth is a welcomed addition to the team and in only his second game scored his first try against a very good defence.

Player of the match Ryan Halsall played well today after getting injured trying to put a big hit on there biggest lad in which he came off second best, he left the field for a short spell and it was his attitude and commitment to go and continue to make tackle's that really impressed today.

Tackler of the match Jack McIntyre was one of the player's that was in the war's today and this was because time and time again he put his body on the line and I have already mentioned the shear commitment he showed to try and stop the last try that was so impressive you have to take your hat off to him today.

Parents choice Nathan Flynn not only added to his try tally today but his line speed was great and his determination to get the big lad down one on one was second to none.

Considering Joseph Hunter didn't want to play today he took on their line really well.

Kyle Monteith, the boy with the deceptive step made some great yard's down the middle of the pitch.

Max Nevitt and Sam Nevitt were two player's who made positive yard's on every carry.

Dezi Wilkinson was described by Dave as the rock in the middle of the pitch and that is exactly what he was today.

George Donoghue showed us today what he can do with a great ball and all tackle on our line to save a certain try.

Rhys Edwards was a player who just missed out on a special award because he played so well in both attack and defence and he made a text booked tackle in the middle of the pitch that really impressed me.

For me today the difference between the two team's was attitude in the second half they upped their game and we switched off a little bit and thing's like playing the ball when no one was acting half back and standing round watching as one player takes the ball up on their own, along with sloppy play of the ball started to creep in to our game but these are thing's we can work on in training. Me and Dave are really proud of our defence today and not for the first a coach has praised us on our set move's and said that is something they are going to start to teach there player's

Well done keep it up
