Pilkington Recs U7's 0 - 5 Waterhead

Lee Halsall24 Mar 2014 - 20:31

pilks have come along way in a year

Sunday morning Pilkington U7's faced a Waterhead side that was new to the game, but had some big and mobile players that ran hard and fast. Although they are new team Waterhead really seemed up for the challenge and to be fare to Pilks, they did challenge them.

The first third finished with Pilks 1 nil down when referee Dave Flynn showed what Pilks are all about and that is win or lose we try to be fair and he gave the opposition the benefit of the doubt.
Pilks did not give up and kept trying, but could not stop Waterhead crossing the line 3 times in the second third.
The final third again like the first, Waterhead went over with another sporting try.

The disappointing thing from a Pilks point of view was the lack of attack shown, with too many players running sideways instead of forward.
After looking at the tackle count every player got involved in defence, but in the second and third periods 3 players never made a tackle, with another 3 players tackle count's dropping, leaving the defence to just three players.

Honorary captain was Harry Thompson.

Callum Taylor was awarded player of the match and Parents Choice for a well deserved performance.

Tackler of the match went to Ben Lynch after doing exactly what he was asked to do and get involved with tackling more.

Ryan Halsall and Nathan Flynn tackled consistently well all through the match.

Joseph Hunter, Tyler Robinson, Connor Stubbs and Dezi Wilkinson all tried their best and on the whole Pilks put in a good performance and which gives us a good platform to work on.

Well done keep it up
