Pilks bounce back

Although this Sunday was a bit on the cold side thankfully the rain stayed away.

Pilks faced a Hindley side who are a relatively new with a mix of first and second year children, but to be fair to Hindley they played well and never gave up playing for the full 30 minutes.

The first third Pilks started off slow and were not on the boil defensively and both Hindley and Pilks started the match trading try for try for the first three tries. Then towards the end of the first third Pilks found their groove and started defending better and held Hindley out a couple of times and the first third ended 5 - 3 to Pilks.

The second third Pilks really upped their game and defensively they were sound, putting in some good hits and limiting Hindley to just one try but not only that Pilks ran really well and started to pass the ball well which resulted in the second third ending 4 tries to 1.

The last third Hindley out scored Pilks 2 tries to 1 which was a little disappointing because coach Dave Flynn asked the players to try and keep Hindley scoreless which obviously Pilks failed to do, I am not sure the reason for this it might have been Pilks started to tire or whether Hindley regained confidence because like I said earlier Hindley never gave up.

All in all a great game of rugby all round and it was nice when the Hindley coach remarked on how he and his team felt welcome at Pilks, which is the atmosphere this club is aiming for and it just proves we are moving in the right direction.

Honorary Captain Callum Taylor led from the front with yet another awesome display in both attack and defence and added another three tries to his tally.

Player of the match Dezi Wilkinson was really impressive today tackling well, scoring a try but not only that the determination that he run with was great to see.

Tackler of the match Joseph Hunter upped his game in defence, but lets face it I think everyone involved with this team had a big smile on their faces when they watched him score his first try. Congratulations Joseph.

Parents Choice Ryan Halsall was up there again this week with his tackle count, also adding another 4 tries to his tally.

Harry Thompson proved he is not an easy player to tackle and it was this strong running and strength that helped him score his try.

Ben Lynch proved today you should give every player a fair chance, with one run in particular standing out after gaining some great yards.

Connor Stubbs, lets not forget is one of our youngest players was always eager to move up and did some good off loads.

Great game today boys and a good attitude showed by all, proving what they can do when they put there minds to it well done keep it up.
