Pilks U7's debuted three new players today and all three played well and proved they were not just there to make up the numbers.
Pilks faced a good Oldham side today, but for me this was a strange Pilks performance. Pilks started the game in a really disorganised fashion with players stood in front of each other, getting in each others way and even tripping each other up at times. But pilks did sort this out and played some really good rugby, with one try in particular as impressive has any try I have seen in this age group. I don't think this was pilks best performance in defence but to be fair Oldham did have a good mix of big strong player's and quick player's that caused pilks some problems.
The first third even though Pilks weren't at their best, the score was still only four tries to one.
The second third was a big improvement and both sides showed good defence to keep it two tries each.
The last third saw Oldham out score Pilks three to one.
Rhys Edwards captained on his debut, scoring his first try for the club and also walking away with parents choice.
Player of the match was Charlie Penketh who not only scored two tries on his debut but also did some great one on one tackles, tackling above his weight.
Another player on his debut was Harvey Cathcart who was awarded tackler of the match who really got stuck in and made some good tackles.
Connor Stubbs for me had his best match for the club so far with good go forward.
Callum Taylor added two tries to his tally today and again did more than his fair share in defence.
There was a few players who showed their braveness and love for the game, coming back on after being injured among these were Ben Lynch and Dezi Wilkinson.
With good performance's from Nathan Flynn, Harry Thompson, Joseph Hunter and Ryan Halsall.
I can really say with the new addition's to the team and the players who are coming through, that they compliment the players that started the season and we are in are heading in the right direction.
Well done keep it up
