After last weeks score fest Pilks were asked by the coaches to tighten up their defence and that's exactly what they did. Tackling well as a team, but unfortunately Pilks were guilty of bunching allowing Ashton to get round the outside, which I think was what cost Pilks in the end.
Both teams were evenly matched and it was a great game to watch.
The first third finished three tries to two in Ashton's favour with some good defence and great tries scored by both teams.
The second third both defences were on top, Ashton were held to two tries and Pilks to one.
As usual Pilks left it until the last third to really show what they can do, out scoring Ashton three tries to two but unfortunately unlike last week were Pilks managed to come up with a good defensive set to end the game as a draw, they could not emulate that this week and in the what turned out to be the last play of the game Pilks were caught bunching and Ashton went round them and scored the winning try.
All in all a much better defence this week and the keeping the ball alive shown by Pilks was great again this week.
Honorary captain this week was Charlie Penketh and he was impressive again this week scoring another try, running well and tackling way above his weight.
Player of the match Rohan Heyes was playing his first game back after spending the winter playing rugby union, has come back running strong and has really upped his game in defence.
Tackler of the match Harry Thompson showed this week what I know he can do and really got stuck in with his tackling.
Parents Choice Rhys Edwards another rugby union import proving he is not just here to make up the numbers running really strong and scoring a couple of tries.
Nathan Flynn was up there again this week with his tackle count and added another try to his tally.
Ryan Halsall played well again this week scoring another couple of tries and put in some strong tackles.
Callum Taylor may not of scored this week but that doesn't make his performance any less impressive, always making good yards and making more than his fair share of tackles.
Connor Stubbs had one of his best games in attack this week and with Ben Lynch, Harvey Cathcart and Dezi Wilkinson playing well it was an all round good team performance.
Well done keep it up
