Pilk's couldn't quite clip the eagles wings

This week Pilkington U7's were away to Culcheth Eagles on a warm sunny Sunday morning.

Pilks had 5 new players on display this week and each one of them did themselves proud.
As is the norm with Pilks they started the game slow and the first third finished 2 tries to nil in Culcheth's favour, but this was not one sided Pilks did threaten the Culcheth line on a few occasion's forcing Culcheth into some great goal line defence.

The second third Pilks really got to grips with the game and upped their defence to make some great stops and also started to attack well, out scoring Culcheth by 4 tries to 3.

In the last third Culcheth took control of the game out scoring Pilks 3 tries to 1.

Pilks struggled all game to control a young lady on the Culteth team who was a thorn in Pilks side all day, proving to anybody who doesn't think girls should play rugby league to go down and watch any team with a girl or girls playing for them and they will be proved wrong.

On the whole this was a good day for Pilks, we may have not got the win but the five new players we blooded did a good job and the passing play by Pilks at times was great and I think this even took the Culcheth coaches a bit by surprise as well.

Max Fear one of our debut players was honorary captain today and lead from the front taking the ball in well.

Player of the match Callum Taylor was outstanding today catching the eye of the opposition team coaches, scoring 3 tries and tackling like a boy possessed with one tackle in particular as good as any hit I have seen at this level.

Tackler of the match Billy Traynor on his debut proved today that you don't have to be big to tackle well, you just have to be brave and stand you ground which he did.

Another player on his debut Josh Hunt was awarded Parents choice after a good display in attack and defence he really worked hard today and was unlucky not to score a try.

Nathan Flynn a player with great footwork added to his tally today and is fast catching up to the top try scorers, also doing something no other player can do and that is making Joanne Knapper put her hand in her pocket.

Dezi Wilkinson scored again today but what was more impressive to me was the way he was moving up in defence and dragging his team with him.

Rhys Edwards played well today in defence and attack showing his pace on a few occasion's.

Ryan Halsall tackled well and made some great breaks but unfortunately he could not add to his tally because Culcheth were too strong down the side lines forcing him in touch.

George Donoghue another player on his debut really got stuck in with his tackling and ran really well.

Aaron King also on his debut took the ball in really well today.

And with good performances from Charlie Penketh, Harvey Cathcart and Ethan Cranny all in all a great day of rugby that was enjoyed by players, parents and coaches alike

Well done keep up the good work
