A morale Boosting win for Pilks

On a misty Sunday morning Pilks hosted Burtonwood bulldogs.
Burtonwood turned up with a few players short due to holidays and illness so we asked Pilks if any of our team would play for Burtonwood and as usual we got a good response, the lads that played for the opposition did themselves and the club proud trying their hardest against their own team mates.

In the first period both teams proved they could score tries and I think both teams scored on every possession making the score at the end of the first period 4 - 3 in Pilks favour.
In the second period Pilks upped their game in defence and started to make stops while still scoring some good tries and the second third finished 3 - 2 to Pilks.
By the last third Pilks had kicked into gear and time and time again saw some great goal line defence keeping Burtonwood out on numerous occasions, Burtonwood did cross Pilks try line a couple of times but Pilks out scored the bulldogs 4 - 2.

Although this wasn't the best Pilks performance, it just goes to show how much we have come on and as I was reminded later after talking to a very experienced coach, that we were like the bulldogs last year a young team who yes we may have got beat a lot but we kept turning up, we kept smiling and that hard work we did last year means we have earned days like this and we have earned our victories so well done boys.

Honorary Captian Luke Brighouse showed us his speed and quality today scoring a couple of tries and putting in some good tackles.

Aaron King was awarded player of the match today after some impressive running and to be fare to him he as been running well for a couple of weeks.

Rhys Edwards was tackler of the match with a good defensive display and scored a couple of tries as well.

Josh Hunt was parents choice today, this was an award he earned by quiet a few vote because of his strong running, good tackling and scoring 2 tries.

It was good to have Callum Taylor back with us today after his spell with the under 8's, when he is on the pitch you always get the same out of him good go forward and hard tackles. Callum also added another try to his tally.

Rohan Heyes proved today what everybody already knows and that is speed kills, I think 4 tries proves this point.

Max Fear impressed me today with his running and watching him play opposition his own age tells me he is going to do well next year.

Unfortunately Nathan Flynn had to leave the field due to illness but showed his team spirit by giving it his all.

And with good performances by Billy Traynor, Ryan Halsall, Tyler Robinson, Mckenzie Smith, Jack McIntyre and Dezi Wilkinson well done keep it up.
