Pilk's faced a well organized aggressive Crossfield team today and Pilks did themselves proud.
Pilk's turned up today with a very good attitude and in the warm they were focused and showed that it is really sinking in how to set a defensive line and work as a team.
Pilk's worked hard straight from the kick off and at no stage did Crossfields walk all over them, having to work for every try and Pilks threatened the Crossfields try line on numerous occasions but unfortunately Pilk's were unable to convert into points due to some good goal line defence from Crossfields.
The first third finished 3 tries to nil in favour of Crossfields but not because of lack of effort by Pilks.
The second third Crossfields really started to gain confidence becoming more aggressive in the tackles and throwing the ball about and even though Pilk's had a few injuries, they showed their braveness by keeping going against all odds and continued to make yards and work hard in defence and the second third finished 4 - 0 in Crossfields favour.
Just before the last third started I asked the children who did not want to go back on because I could see the lads had been in a tough match and I didn't want to send lads out who didn't want to be on the pitch and knock their confidence anymore and lose them from the game altogether. A few of our players who are lacking a bit of experience chose to sit it out, they were offered the opportunity to return to the field half way through the last third but they all declined.
The last third and Crossfield kept the ball alive, but credit to Pilk's they kept working hard running strong and were really there for each other and it was this hard work and never give up attitude resulted in Pilk's only try of the game and the last third finished Crossfield's 4 tries to 1 up.
I have to give the boys credit today they never gave up and kept running hard against a very good defence and really tried to play rugby against all odds and got their rewards with a try.
Honorary Captian Nathan Flynn showed his leadership with a great performance in attack and in defence and this was clear to all who watched the game as he won parents choice by a landslide and made my decision of who to pick as player of the match a difficult one.
Luke Brighouse was player of the match today after a really brave performance, after taking hit after hit he kept running strong and it was this braveness and determination that eventually earned him a try.
Ryan Halsall was tackler of the match after another good game in both attack and defence.
I thought some off our smaller players like Billy Traynor , Ethan Cranny and Harvey Cathcart all ran well after some of the bigger lads from Crossfields seemed to be targeting them with big hits.
Josh Hunt and Max Fear both proved today what team player's they are after choosing to sit the last third out, they both come back on when they were needed.
With Tyler Robinson, Mackenzie Smith, Jack McIntyre, Dezi Wilkinson and George Donoghue playing well, I thought todays performance was great against all odds.
Well done keep it up
