Pilkington Recs U7's were fortunate today to be invited to join Clockface and West Bank in a round robin and what great day of rugby, it was enjoyed by all from the spectators to the coaches and more importantly the players.
It was a cold Sunday morning which the players struggled with at times, but they did not let that stop them doing their defensive duties and also playing some good passing rugby as well.
The first match saw West Bank score on their first possession with not a Pilks player laying a hand on him, but this didn't get Pilks down and they showed there resilience and took the ball down the other end and scored, unfortunately this would be the last time Pilks crossed the line in both their games.
Both matches went about the same way Pilks defended well and went close to both Clockface and West Banks try line on nearly every set of six but like I said before never managed to go the extra final yards to cross the white wash. All three teams tackled well and in their second match Pilks started to pass the ball, which pleased both their coaches.
But I have to give a mention to my favourite try of the day which was scored by Clockface who after countless off loads they finally broke down some great Pilks defence which by the way was my favourite defensive set of the day, every Pilks player worked hard and did everything in their power to stop it, you cant ask for more than that.
West Bank 4 - 1 Pilks U7's
Clockface 4 - 0 Pilks U7's
Connor Stubbs Captian for the day on his debut really impressed with his strong running.
Callum Taylor was outstanding both in defence and attack earning him a well deserved player of the match.
Tackler of the match went to Dezi Wilkinson for his great tackling technique, really putting his shoulder into the tackle and tackling round the legs.
Harry Thompson got parents choice for a performance that showed us what he is capable of.
Ryan Halsall whose competitive nature can sometimes have a negative affect on his game scored his first try of the season and tackled well.
Tyler Robinson another debut player and one of the most confident young players I have had the pleasure of meeting didn't let anything phase him, playing well and really enjoying the day.
Nathan Flynn who was very impressive today, a player I am looking forward to watching this year, a player known for his attacking play, all credit to him he was also one of our top tacklers today.
And last but not least are our two smaller players but probably our bravest players Ben Lynch who took to the field and had a good go, after training all year regaining his confidence and Joseph Hunter choosing to join in the second match, after having a crisis of confidence from playing against much bigger children in the first match.
Well done boys, great game today keep it up
We encourage that parents leave positive comments about match days to help to encourage the children (in the comment box under the match report)
