Woolston greens vs pilkington recs under 7s

Chris Taylor8 Mar 2015 - 21:45

.

It was a cold and rather muddy day This Sunday morning
This didn't let pilks get them down, spirits was high for under 7s being there first ever match being year 1s
We also had a few year 2s who was excited to get back into playing this season .

We seen woolston greens who I have to say was a very well drilled team, in the first quarter we was down 3/0 to this experienced side , second quarter we went down 5/0 ,third quarter we went down 6/0 ,fourth quarter the team held woolston out and the score line remaind 6/0

1st and 2nd quarter pilks was seeming to be over run with woolston and we just couldn't get our defence as solid as we needed which lead to woolston racking up 5 tries

3rd quarter I was finally seeing what I have been seeing in training sessions , zak atherton ran onto the ball did a cracking side step ran down the wing we thought we was going to see pilks first try but Woolston managed to hold him out , zak is a player who always doubts his self and he showed today he is more than capable of playing rugby !

4th quarter , now this is where pilks stood up and shown that even tho we have a lot of year 1s who was playing for the first time that they wasn't going to allow woolston to gain anymore tries and our defence came to life ! With help from the year 2s who shown there experience to the years 1s an made this the quarter that I knew our team had in them !

Pilks struggled in the 4th quarter to clear there line with some good defence from woolston however woolston had 3 sets of 6 on pilks line , this is where the defence stood up , I seen Ethan cranny and Noah Heaton start pilks defence on the line with some solid defending , we then seen Woolston sending there biggest player in , who lewis taylor And James Hatton worked as a team , giving a big hit on this player and pushing him back from breaking the pilks defence , woolston wasn't giving up and sent another big player in and we seen Ethan cowin , Bryn Edwards and Rhys Crehan all work as a team, making a big hit and holding pilks defence solid !

What I was pleased to see was Isaac heyes and josh larkin who lack a lot of confidence when it comes to making tackles , held a woolston player up and stopped him from breaking pilks defence which was looking stronger than ever !
That 4th quarter was something special from pilks who defending there line and wasn't letting woolston have anymore tries , there defence was solid and there tackles was awesome !

Parents choice/coach choice went to Aaron king for how he was running the ball up , it was taking 3/4 woolston players to try and take him down , he just kept pushing and making yards until in the end held was called as there was no way he was going down !! Couldn't ask more of Aaron today he played awesome !

Tackler of the match could only go to one player and that was josh hunt , having not missed one tackle in all of the match , which made a lot of hard work for Woolston , when running with ball he never looked back he just kept going strong and made a lot of yards , couldn't ask anymore of josh , outstanding tackles !

Luke brighouse stood up today and was counted , he was today's captain and he took that role on like a duck to water !
Luke lead from the front with his tackling , at one point I thought we had two Luke's on the pitch as he was everywhere and involved in all tackles, when going forward he never took a back step , he kept driving the ball forward and making plenty yards , this lead to luke with no doubt in anyone's mind to be awarded man of the match , which didn't go unnoticed by the parents who also awarded luke parents choice, with his outstanding performance in attack and defence his award was fully deserved !

So proud of you all today and you all should be proud of your selfs , year 1s for being your first match of the season and not giving up . Year 2s for bringing your experience and helping year 1s !
