Pilks started with a minutes silence for a rugby player Danny Jones , who sadly passed away due to a suspected cardiac arrest !
Thoughts go to his family , friends and team mates at this sad time !
Pilks played Rylands today at home.
We went down 13-7.
We decided to run two games today, due to the benefit of having a big squad.
So today we had a game of year 1s against Rylands and year 2s against Rylands.
Darren is going to do year 2s write up this week.
Even tho pilks year 1s went down 6-2 this does not reflect on the game.
Year 1s was up against a strong , well coached year 2 side.
When Rylands were tackled they was up quick and played the ball, this was causing a lot of problems for pilks year 1s.
Rylands started to pass the ball , when they did this pilks was not quick enough to make a re tackle .
Half time came and I had a word with the kids an told them what was letting us down , I asked them all to increase there defence.
Pilks came out second half and showed Rylands the skills they have . There was some outstanding defence, attack and ball passing happening.
This was a lot better team performance. Pilks started tackling in 2s and 3s , talking to each other , helping each other out , all playing as a team and not one man rugby.
Me and Darren split the awards this week .
Our captain today was Leighton . Just as I thought Leighton is a natural leader . He came on the pitch trying to help all the lads out. He was shouting to get them on there defence line . This lad always gives me 100% and more . His tackling is amazing , his attitude is outstanding , he is a very well disciplined little lad . Never get no non sense just straight forward rugby . Makes you smile to watch this lad play . He also added another try to his tally this week , with a run , bursting through two tackles on the half way line , straight through over the line , makes everything he does look effortless . Well done Leighton !
Man of the match went to one of the little lads on the field today Zak Atherton , Zak I have to start with what a performance today , this little lad has lacked so much confidence and belief in his self. These last three weeks we have seen Zak come on in leaps and bounds in such a short space of time . The difference in this lad in just three weeks is unbelievable . He came on the pitch , he tackled with confidence , he ran the ball through with confidence , you would never of thought this lad lacked any confidence if you watched him play today . He ran onto the ball making some good meters, but what impressed me the most was his tackling . His tackling was spot on couldn't fault him at all . Zak you brought to the field what I asked you to from training . You played outstanding and this was by far your best performance . Well done little lad ...well deserved player of the match !
Bravery award went to James Hatton aka Tommy , James got his self this award as he ran the ball in and got tackled by three players , one of the players who I have to state this was a total accident , landed on top of James and his knees went into James' back. James didn't let this phase him and got straight up and carried on , again put in some big hits this week and took some big hits , had a superb game , well done James !
Coaches choice went to josh Larkin . This is a quiet lad who does try his best every week , I asked him this week in training to catch the ball don't stop , just keep running. Which he brought this to the match this week . He was getting involved in tackles , which was nice to see . The thing josh needs to improve on is his quickness back on the line , which we will work on in training . This was your best performance today josh well done !
I've got to mention all the other kids again this week as I had even less trophies to give out , with running two games.
You all played your hearts out again this week so I can't leave anyone out . I'm proud of each and everyone of you today . Well done lads !
Rhys Crehan . Rhys had another good game again this week . Rhys was making some good one on one tackles again .
Stopping Rylands adding even more to that score line . Rhys made a lot of yards for pilks today giving the other lads some good chances of scoring . Well done Rhys can't fault you again this week !
Bryn Edwards . Bryn is a very quiet lad on the field , but his tackling today was outstanding . He makes good meters when he gets the ball, but his tackling is just flawless . Well done Bryn!
Alex calderbank. Alex not one of his best games this week , I think his head guard caused him a lot of distraction . Alex still tried this week so well done Alex !
Dylan Greenall , Dylan added another try to his tally this week , running across the line then cut down the wing , using his speed to his advantage went in for a nice try in the corner . Dylan missed out on an award this week as through his turn on the pitch he decided to leave and get his self a drink , leaving the wing uncovered , Rylands took full advantage of this and went In for the easiest try of the match ! Dylan worked on his tackling this week in training and brought it to the field today, his tackling was a lot better. Dylan had a really good game , well done Dylan !
Last but not least Lewis Taylor , what impresses me with Lewis is his running onto the ball and going forward . Lewis has a cracking side step on him , which he did use today and was very unlucky not to score two tries . Lewis was high on the tackle count again this week . I did have a few parents who came to me and asked why Lewis hadn't been given an award as they think he had an amazing game and deserved one , they asked could he not have parents choice , but with awards split we didn't do this , this week. I think I'm a bit harsh on Lewis as he is my grandson . I think I need to be more strict , when really he did have an awesome game this week I couldn't of asked more of him , so I think going off parents I was a bit to harsh on Lewis. He does give me 100% week In week out , he never gives me any problems. He wasn't very confident when he started this season and is a shy little boy. When he plays rugby his confidence is 100% , his tackles are 100% and his running with the ball is. He is a little tackling machine . never lets me down or his team down. He tries to help everyone who is struggling , he is a pleasure to coach . I have passed on your compliments to Lewis , we have one very happy little lad ! Well done Lewis !
Thanks again this week to Ste crehan who had a job on his hands to get pictures of two games , I have to say he has for you some cracking pictures this week aswell ! Your help is much appreciated
Thanks to Alan Greenall who was sending the kids on and off the pitch , your help was much appreciated !
Thanks also to leightons dad who kept the time this week for year 1s , your help is much appreciated !
Thanks to all the parents who brought there kids this week . We have had a text off the Rylands coach thanking everyone for making it enjoy able for all . All kids had smiles on there faces , even tho they was all shattered this week after playing nearly a full match , well done lads your improving every week as a team !!
The year 2's played all 40 mins today and were never out of what proved to be a tight game of rugby.Rylands scored first but pilks came straight back with the scoring machine Luke Brighouse squeezing in at the corner for his first try. Rylands then had a bit of a purple patch scoring a couple of try's. But to pliks credit they hit back when a great barnstorming run by Connor Stubbs and a sweet offload gave Luke an opportunity he eagerly took to score his second try of the game. In the next 10 mins came the most pleasing aspect for me as a coach as Rylands put pilks under emmence pressure on their own line not once but twice and with great heart and effort the Lads kept them out an outstanding defensive display that saints could take notice of.
In the second half Rylands found the outside of pilks defence scoring a couple of try's but some good off loading by Ethen Cranny and some very strong running by Josh Hunt softened up the defence for the elusive Aaron King to ghost round the outside and score in the corner.
In the last 10 mins we saw another great defensive display by pilks with some great tackling by Noah Heaton and Roman Smith. Rylands managed to find away through the dogged pilks defence but on attack we saw Luke not once but twice dance his way through , the last try I don't think they even put a finger on him.
In the end Rylands took a narrow victory but I believe we saw enough from the year two's to be very optimistic about our future. Once again I was very proud to have been on the pitch with you all today and everyone of you should be very proud of the effort you displayed today.
