pilks U7's held a minutes silence today in respect of a little lad only 12 years of age.
Also having played rugby his self for black brook royals .
Harrison ledsham lost his long battle with cancer last week.
Our thoughts & prayers go out to his family , friends & team mates at black brook .
R.I.P little fella !
Pilks U7's had another big squad again this week so we ran two games.
Darren will add year 2s write up later.
We also lent out three year 1s this sunday to Newton Storm.
The emphasis on the game today was defence and quick play of the ball.
we had been working on this , this week in training.
Pilks and Newton was evenly match today. so it was good to see our year 1s play there own age for a change plus we got to see just how far year 1s have come since there first match.
1st Quarter 2-2
2nd Quarter 1-1
3rd Quarter 3-1
4th Quarter 2-1
The first two quarters was try for try. Half time they was level 3-3.
In the second half Pilks pulled away 5 tries to 2 , With strong defence all 7 players moving up in one straight line.
We was tackling in pairs , getting back on our line quick waiting for the next runner to come.
The players were talking to each other, filling in the gaps to only allow Newton two tries in the second half was something special.
Lets not forget they are only year 1s and have only played 8 games together so far this season.
Our year 2s have 12 months playing time on them.
They are coming together as a team as the weeks go on,There confidence is growing.
Making there debut today for pilks was Ellis Carsley , I've been waiting for this little lads first game. He started training only a few weeks ago and after watching him in training , I was excited to see him play. He didn't let me or the team down .He brought exactly what I have seen in training to the field . Took his first run at pace , what a run it was and a hand off to go with it , knocking a newton storm player 5 yards back . Taking 2/3 players to take him down in each tackle. He was outstanding in attack and defence and putting in some big hits . Well done Ellis amazing first game for you !
Captain for todays match was Dylan Greenall . Dylan had a strong game this week. Last few weeks we have seen Dylan been standing back from tackles which wasn't the little lad who first started . Well this week we seen the Dylan who very first started with pilks . He was putting is some good attack and some crackling little tackles . Added a try to his tally this week by doing what he does best , moving down the line , cutting to the wing increased the speed in for a nice little try in the corner . Now we know his grandad would love to take the credit for taking Dylan over the park at the weekend passing the ball , so we will let him have his 5 minutes of fame ( there u go laurel this is your moment ) ! Strong game this week Dylan well done !
Man of the match went to Lewis Taylor. The last 3 weeks Lewis has been outstanding in defence and attack . His tackles this week was just flawless with Every tackle he made around the legs and took the lads down . Lewis has a cracking little side step on him and used this to his advantage this week , adding another try to his tally , taking players over the line with him and went in the corner . A lovely little lad who gives me 100% every single time . You amaze me how you was a shy little boy with little confidence only a few weeks ago and now your a confident , bubbly little lad who is just flourishing as weeks go on .Outstanding game Lewis well done !
Tackler of the match went to Bryn Edwards . Bryn is a quiet little lad , he certainly lets his ability to play rugby do all the talking for him . His tackling is just awesome always tackles around the legs stopping players dead . Adding another try to his tally this week . He is a pleasure to coach . , well done Bryn you did yourself and your team proud !
Jacob Davies , Jacob got his first hat-trick for pilks this week , Jacob played outstanding all game , as he always does for us . Once he gets a break he's just gone , glad I'm not the one having to chase him . (your brother is learning you well ha ) no more holidays for you ! Well done Jacob couldn't fault you again , outstanding game keep it up !
Leighton Glover .Leighton makes my job as a coach hard every week when picking awards. I can only echo what I have said in the few short weeks you have played for us . You make everything you do look effortless . You never let any of your team down . No matter where you are on the pitch if your team mates need you , your straight there running from wing to wing to help them out in defence . You are a credit to your parents . Your a delight to watch and a delight to coach . Adding 2 tries to your tally again this week . Also has a lot of upper body strength , his tackles are exceptional , his running with the ball is stunning to see ! You are always up there for an award every week ! Super performance again this week Leighton keep it up !
Also we have to say a massive thanks to 3 little lads who stepped up this week and played for Newton Storm.
Isaac Heyes , Ethan Cowin and Zak Atherton . Causing pilks some problems when we came up against them . Zak having played the full match for Newton Storm , was again brimming with confidence again this week and was putting in some cracking tackles on his own players , stopping pilks racking up that score line more than it was . Well done lads you did your team proud !
Alex Calderbank , Josh Larkin . Both tried there best again , improving every week with there tackling and going forward with the ball . Well done lads keep it up .
James Hatton and Rhys Crehan . Was up there for an award this week , put in some cracking defence and attack . Some big hits was being put in from these two lads. You both are there every week and never let me or your team down . Your a credit to have in the squad and you both are a delight to coach and watch play . Well done lads keep up the good work !
Thanks to all the parents for bringing there kids this week !
Your all make me proud of you each week !
You all make me wake up every day with a smile on my face !
Your an absolute pleasure to watch and coach !
Keep it up lads all your efforts are coming together !
Thanks to Ste Crehan who again had a job on his hands taking pictures of two matches .
Some really nice pictures this week again ! Your help is much appreciated !
Thanks to Alan Greenall for keeping an eye on the kids on the side lines, making sure they kept out of mischief !
The year 2's notched up their second win of the season with possibly their best display to date. With the very first play the ball of the game Luke Brighouse stepped his way down the touchline to score the first of his six trys. A great defensive set of six by pilks kept Newton out and on the next attacking set the ever improving Billy Traynor went in for the first of his two trys. Newton to their credit came back and for the next couple of sets traded trys with pilks with the weaving , elusive Aaron King adding not one but two trys to his impressive list. Good solid running by Roman Smith and Ethan Cranny set up Connor Stubbs to bulldoze his way over for a well deserved try. Some more great defence , especially by Noah Heaton kept Newton out and then a superb run from Josh Hunt from well within his own half saw him score in the corner.
A couple of mentions. Max Fear has really impressed me in the past couple of weeks he's running stronger than ever and his tackling is coming on leaps and bounds he is turning into a player that a coach can count on. George Edmondson is a completely different player to the one who started the season, his running and tackling has improved so much but its his confidence and self belief that is making him into a very good player
Winning is always nice but as a coach I look for other quality's .......positive attitude , commitment , willingness to listen and learn and working as a team , these are the things I look for and you all showed those quality's today. I really can't praise you enough , well done to everyone of you.
