Having two games for U7's again this week, year 1s played haydock, year 2s played Leigh East/Wigan St Jude's.
Pilks went to haydock this week, after winning the last three matches spirits was high for year 1s.
It was a usual Sunday morning British weather, cold, wet & foggy.
Haydock had a couple of older and big under 7s which caused Pilks some problems at the start. Pilks soon got wise to this and starting working together to stop this happening. Pilks always start off slow in every match we play, but I have to say once they get into the game they are cracking side to watch and pull their selfs back from a losing score line. All credit to haydock who played an awesome game of rugby. My lads wanted it more on the day and they fought until the end to gain their selfs a win. We went from a losing score line, to a draw, then to an 11/9 win. The defence on one of the wings was just outstanding. All the kids stepped up today and all deserved an award!
Our captain today was Josh Crilly, no surprise here that Josh stood up today and made a cracking captain for Pilks. He got the kids in a circle counted to 3 an all u heard was the full team shouting Pilks recs! This little lad has only played 3 games for us so far this season, he is a cracking little
Defender, for our smallest lad on the pitch he doesn't half put some strength behind his attack. Josh scored a try for Pilks this week and I have to say was a cracking try! You had an awesome game mate well done !
Our first man of the match went to Aidan Gibbons, Aidan gained his self man of the match this week for his attack and defence. Aidan was one of the first off his line making the tackles and made some cracking try saving tackles. His go forward with the ball was awesome this week, we even seen a few cracking hand offs from Aidan this week. The determination in this little lad this week was written all over his face. He never gave up pushing for that try, made a cracking hand off, broke the defence and was very unlucky to get put down just short of the line. Best game I have seen from you today mate well done !
Our second man of the match went to superman, Leighton glover. Leighton as always played a cracking game off rugby. He put in some cracking defence. His attack as always is stunning to watch as he broke down the defence and ran his self in 4 tries for Pilks this week. His defence on the wing is just superb! I can never fault this little lad he comes on that pitch and he plays his little heart out for me and his team. You was awesome again today mate well done !
Coaches choice went to no other than Jacob Davies, This little lad gained my choice this week as I think he had an outstanding game of rugby! He was everywhere on the pitch. Not only did he play in one set he also stood in when players came off the pitch. What is impressing me with Jacob is how he is listening to everything in training and bringing it to the pitch for me. We are seeing Jacob doing dive in tackles. Now this technique is hard to master but once mastered is stunning to watch, I have to say some dive in tackles he made this week was awesome, he made some cracking try saving tackles and put his body on the line for his team. Like any other week he played his heart out for his team. Jacob also scored his self 3 tries for Pilks today. Well done little lad you had an superb game in defence this week!
Our top tackler went to no other than Lewis Taylor. Lewis' tackling since starting back after a 6 week break is just awesome. He is going from strength to strength. He was first off his line stopping the players from breaking, he made some massive hits one on one. He really did put his body on line for his team today. Lewis' tackling this week was perfect and made some cracking try saving tackles on his wing. He really is stepping it up a gear with his defence. Lewis also gained his self a try this week. You was our little warrior this week , outstanding game mate well done !
Now for all the lads who played for Pilks.
Zack Kilgannon, Zack had a cracking game today, his go forward with the ball was awesome and he equally stood up in defence. Zack made a cracking break and went over the try line , with a very dubious decision from the ref he was called in touch and brought back. This ref needs some new glasses I think ! Was a superb break all the same mate. well done for today u had a cracking game !
Dylan Greenall, this little lad played his heart out today, he was very unlucky not to gain an award. His mum missing his first ever match this week, I have to say worked wonders for Dylan. He was awesome running with the ball, scoring his self a try and also having one chalked off for being in touch. His defence was outstanding today, he was chasing the biggest player for haydock on every break and was very unlucky not to stop his tries. You impressed me today Dylan as you didn't give up and you was the only little lad on your team to chase that player down and have a go at stopping him crossing that line on more than one occasion. This is the best game I have seen you play all season, you put your body on the line and you gave me and your team your all, very proud of you little lad !
Rhys crehan, Rhys this week did have to be told a few times for messing on and off the pitch, n didn't give his all in tackles that we know he does with ease. His dad went early and this made a massive difference this week for Rhys. Some kids play better with out their parents there but Rhys has his best games with his dad on the side lines ! Rhys did run strong with the ball as always and kept pushing for that try line. Let's have the fiery little Rhys back in defence next week mate the team missed it ! Well done for today mate !
Jacob Bailey, this little lad is going make me go grey! We still have a lot of work to do with Jacob as he has only just started playing with us. I will give credit when he had his run he did have a good go at running with the ball. His tackling we are working on as the weeks go on. Jacob is easily distracted and let's his self down with his messing on the side lines, this we are working on with him and as the weeks go on we can start bringing the best out in him.
Ellis Carsley, Ellis was another little lad who had a cracking game today. He was running hard and strong with the ball and put in some superb defence with his team. His defence and go forward with the ball is going from strength to Strength the more he plays. Well done little lad cracking game!
Zak atherton, Zak this week was away with the fairies, we know this week his little sister had hurt herself so it was all madness before he came to the game. So we will let Zak off this week. Fresh start next week little man as your performance today wasn't the little lad we seen play last week. Well done for still coming and not letting your team down proud of you ! Get well soon Ruby Pilks biggest supporter!
Ethan Cowin, Ethan had a cracking game today in defence, his tackling was awesome and he was involved in every tackle made. We even seen him making one on one tackles. We just need to keep those tackles down! Scoring his self a try for Pilks this week. You had a superb game this week mate well done !
Josh Larkin, Josh played well today, I have to say his defence lacked a little bit this week as the last two he's set his own bar high in his defence. Josh again this week stepped up and played dummy half for his team, we just need him not to spin that ball when he's passing it as it's not making the players. You stepped up for your team and you ran well with the ball so well done mate !
Isaac Heyes, Isaac is running stronger with the ball in attack, it was only a few weeks ago when he ran with the ball he use to stop as players came to him. He is improving week by week and we are now seeing him pushing forward and not stopping . Well done mate you had a brill game !
Well done to every child who played today, you all played as a team again this week and it showed on the pitch and in the score line. You all do me proud every week and you all are my little warriors who never let me down!
I couldn't ask for a better bunch of lads and it's a pleasure to coach every single one of you. Well done lads let's have the same again next week and keep this winning run going !
Thanks to Ste for taking pictures of the first half for us much appreciated.
Thanks to Ant for taking the second half pictures for us much appreciated.
Thanks to Gary for taking pictures with his fancy camera.
Thanks to Wendy for keeping time for the lads much appreciated.
Thanks to Neil for making sure the lads behaved! Much appreciated.
Thanks to Alan for being our ref today. Much appreciated!
Sorry for the delay in the report..,.....
Now Darren's dapper Dans went away to Leigh East to play a round robin with Leigh East , Wigan St Jude's and ourselves.
It was the first time playing the two sides and they did more than hold their own against two of the best sides I've seen in this age group.
Captain for the day was Max Fear. Max has a fantastic turn of speed and used this to excellent use when scoring his try , splitting the defence and going straight down the middle for a fantastic solo try.
The man of the Match award went to Josh Hunt. Josh ran so hard this week never shying away from the oncoming defence and is always looking for the offload to a team mate ,add to that some great tackling and he thoroughly deserved his try and award.
Our opening try scorer this week was Aaron King. Aaron is so elusive when taking the ball forward and has fantastic balance making him incredibly hard d to put a hand on let alone a shot.
Pilks other try scorer in the first game was Ethan Cranny. Ethan is really starting to find his feet and starting to grow in confidence, he took his try exceptionally well.
Helping the year 3's out this week was Joseph Morris. Even though he is younger he never looked out of place scoring not only a brilliant try but making not one but two try saving tackles. A superb display .
Our other try scorer on the day was Billy Traynor who sent an outrageous dummy and stole in at the corner.
George Edmondson had by his standards a quiet first game but really came to life in the second, running hard and putting in some textbook tackles
Noah Heaton I believe could be our dark horse, his tackling technique needs a bit of work but his heart doesn't and he has started to run a bit straighter and harder .
The two sides you played on Sunday haven't been beaten all season and you took them both on and went toe to toe and didn't look out of place. The only problem you have now is that you've set a standard that I expect you to keep ( oh yes ).......
Well done to everyone of you .........let's keep it up.
