Fantastic game of rugby.

One of the most exciting games we have played today however pilks were not at their best and the score line flattered St Jude’s. We got off to a really slow start and conceded three tries in the first ten although two of them were dubious due to the grounding but were given anyway even though Joseph Morris put his body on the line and worked hard to stop the ball from being grounded, The ref said if they get over the line it’s a try where as we feel the great goal line defence was punished when they actually held them up.

The second ten was an unbelievable difference we passed the ball, ran hard and the defence was phenomenal and Jude’s looked intimated to take a ball in. In this ten we ran in 5 great tries and did not concede a single try in this ten minute spell. This meant the score was 20-12 to pilks at half time.

The second half was steady for both teams and Jude’s managed to get over for two further tries due to us not moving up as we should in the line and standing off which is not our usual style. Logan Parr in the last ten minutes ran the ball hard and managed to bust through the defence to score the winning try with the overall score being 24- 20. I think we were the better team and bombed a lot of chances and at times our defence could have been so much better but every player and every team will have an off week. Jude’s did have some good talent they ran hard and had the quickest defensive line we have played to date but we think on the return fixture we will be back to our usual selfs and will stick with reffing half a game each.

MOM today was shared between Ethan Bold and Ellis Carsley. Ethan is not the biggest lad on the pitch however over recent weeks in training he has been listening to his coaches and you can see him wanting to improve and that showed today on the field with his work ethic and willingness to put his body on the line in defence and never took a backward step. Well done Ethan keep it up same next week.

Ellis Carsley, we asked this lad to move up in defence and get back quickly and he didn’t disappoint today. Ellis ran hard and was fearless of their biggest players. Once Ellis gets his concentration back to what it was last year in training then his potential will flourish. Great effort Ellis well done.

Parents Choice was shared this week with both players having a good game. Bryn Edwards ran hard today, scored a fantastic try and absolutely made some outstanding impact today with his defence. When Bryn times it right he hurts. Bryn this week looked like he had some of his confidence back that he had last year and he needs to build on this and take it into next week. Great Game Bryn well done.

Shay Varkulis was the other parents choice today. Shay always gets recognised for his fearless defensive efforts and workrate but today I think the parents recognised the same as the coaches and that his attack was what stood out today. Shay ran the ball in straight ( never going sideways) and hard and always found his front for a quick play of the ball. Shay has the heart of a lion and we want other players to have a similar fearless mindset. Keep it up Shay.

Players player this week was also shared between Logan Parr and Dylan Greenall. Dylan had a good game today scoring two good trys. Dylan also showed some great defensive efforts today showing good technique with good shoulder contact and wrapping the ball up. We have said it lots this season that he runs and tackles above his weight and we want him to keep this up for the rest of the season well done Dylan.

Logan Parr had a good game today Logan was also selected by their coaches for MOM as well as his team mates for players player. Logan made some great metres for his team today when he ran straight. When he ran straight and used his handoff he was unstoppable and scored a fantastic try. Logan’s defence has also been improving week on week but just always remember to keep moving up even when tired to prevent gaps. Great game on the field today we need to take this attitude into each training session and you will get better and better each week.

Top Tackler this week went to Joseph Morris. Joseph really stuck his body on the line today doing lots of work but also some great 1-1 tackles. Like we mentioned earlier goal line defence was fantastic. The refs sometimes get it wrong but We need to channel our frustration and get on with putting in a fantastic performance. Great game keep it up.

Rhys Crehan needs to get a special mention today for his defence and one tackle in particular that was timed to perfection and executed a great 1-1 when others didn’t move up in defence and Rhys closed the danger down. When Rhys is concentrating and listening to his coaches he has lots of potential and plays well. Rhys needs to play in training like he does in a game and he will be a great player. Great game Rhys.

Also playing was, josh Larkin, Dylan Finney, Lewis Taylor, Jacob Davies, Kieron manweiler, josh Crilly, Dan keogh. Well done boys you also put in a fantastic effort today.
