This week we went to Leigh east and we knew it was going to be a physical game. As coaches though the lads just didn’t seem switched on,even in the warm up they were just not on it and we knew they was not going to play like they can.
We got off to a slow start and went two tries down quite quickly but we dug deep and managed to pull a try back with a great dummy by Rhys Crehan to go over for a great try. Joseph Morris also showed some great determination to get over. Leigh East managed to get over again as we were not hitting with the shoulder like we had practiced in training and couldn’t stop them. With a few minutes left Jacob Davies used his footwork and strength to crash over to take it to 3-3.
In the second ten we defended well but bombed so many chances with silly offloads, running in touch and a few wild passes. The lads were getting frustrated in attack as we can usually score for fun but just couldn’t get into a rhythm. They defended better and kept Leigh East out in this ten. Jacob Davies managed to get over for a second and took the score to 4-3 to us at half time.
In the second half some of us went to playing tag rugby as opposed to tackling and Leigh East managed to pull another two tries back in this ten. Josh Larkin got the ball and just ran hard for that line and managed to get over, the try was given but we have to credit both josh for his efforts And determination and for the east player who put equal amount of work in on his defence to try and hold up the try putting his body on the line, wouldn’t be fair not to give him just as much credit as josh.
It was 5-5 going into the last ten and some sloppy defence down one wing allowed East over, but we kept pressing in attack and we finally managed to show some good passing skills with Lewis Taylor sending Aiden Houghton in the corner.
Trophies this week were as follows:
Parents Choice went to Bryn Edwards who showed some great determination and good timing in defence to make some big hits. Only thing to remember Bryn is if you shoot out the line you have got to make sure you connect and you did most of the time but a few times we left a few gaps. Great defensive effort and keep working on that timing. Keep up the good work.
Players player went to Jacob Davies this week who is always consistent week in and week out scoring two good tries and making a few try saving cover tackles. Run straight and hard and you are difficult to stop. Good game Jacob well done.
Top Tackler this week was Lewis Taylor who has such a good tackle technique hitting the ball and squeezing. There were a few occasions were Lewis took aome
Massive big tackles one and one but he did back down and stood his ground with some awesome wrapping the ball up text book tackles. Had a quiet game in attack this week but his defence certainly made up for that.... just remember that little look and then pass when you have drew the man in. Great game Lewis as always.
Man of the match was shared this week between Joseph Morris and Shay Varkulis. Joseph had a great game in both attack and defence and really puts himself about for his size. He scored a great try also and can be really elusive with the ball. Great work Joseph keep it up.
Shay Varkulis this week was selected for his work ethic he is always up there at the top of the tackle count and always takes the difficult balls in off his own line and never moans. We never made the most of Shays quick play of the balls this week but I’m sure we will be back on it next week.
Well done to everyone this week , A draw was a fair reflection of the game but I can honestly say easy gave us a run for our money and we just wasn’t on the ball this week and didn’t give our usually performance but everyone is allowed an off week and this was ours.
Thanks to all the parents for coming watching and all the team helpers for what you do.
