.

Today we went to Shevington and again we knew it was going to be another tough week. After a great warm up where all the lads were listening they seemed really up for it and focussed.

Would firstly like to say a big thanks to the shevington coach Phil who was fantastic with all the kids and his focus was on every child’s game.

Again in the first ten we went three easy tries down because we never moved up as a line and only a couple of lads moved up leaving gaps for shevington to exploit. Not only was our defence not up to scratch, in attack we just couldn’t complete a set without making silly offloads and multiple knock on’s early in the tackle count. Turning over so much possession and having to defend like we did we were always on the back foot.

The second ten was better as there coach even commented that they just couldn’t break the defence down and we managed to keep them out for the full ten. We showed some better attack and Lewis Taylor gave a great ball for Jacob Davies to go sailing down the wing for a great try. Again on this set though we still turned over possession needlessly and bombed some chances.

At half time we were two tries down and we knew it was going to be tough to pull this game back and again on the third set we knocked on multiple times and only a few players were putting there bodies on the line. Shevington ran in two more tries in this ten and we knew the game was done but the lads still fought on.

In the last ten Shevington got over again and we managed to cross for our second with Dylan Greenall crossing the whitewash. We worked for each other in this set but again we are not playing rugby like we can and this group is tough this year with no easy game. Rugby is a tough physical game and it hurts but we need to ensure we all put the work in on the field and take how we train into games. I think we needed to take a loss to refocus and get the lads fighting for each other again. The two things the coaches ask for is to enjoy your rugby and give 100% but we didn’t do that today and the score line reflected that. Draw a line under it, work hard in training and learn from it ready for next week.

The score line is not important it is coming off knowing that you couldn’t have given anymore on that field for your team, proud of yourself for your performance and a smile on your face.

Trophies today were.

Parents Choice today went to Jacob Davies which was thoroughly deserved if he was not there making some crucial one on one tackles today the score line would have been very different. Jacob ran hard, defended like a warrior and kept his cool even when they were holding down and flopping on. Great game Jacob keep it up and you proved today why all your team mates look up to you.

Players player and the away MOM went to Dylan Greenall who had a really good defensive game today tackling above his weight and making some great 1 on 1 tackles. Dylan ran like a forward today and is half the size of one, taking balls that no one else wanted to take up, awesome. Going over for a great try in the corner. Remember to look for the gaps and use your footwork and speed. Well done Dylan keep it up.

Top tackler this week went to Aidan Houghton really putting himself about the pitch and making some crucial tackles. Aidan ran hard as well so put in a great performance for his team. Well done Aidan keep it up.

Man of the match went to Rhys Crehan who impressed us this week with his work ethic as he was one of the few that kept moving up in defence and putting his body on the line making some good tackles. Rhys tried to get his team moving but similarly to Lewis there were just not the runners running off them today. Rhys has been focussed in recent weeks and eager to impress and it is showing in his game. Well done Rhys keep it up.

Special mention to Bryn Edwards and Lewis Taylor today for their defence even though they did not do as many tackles as others Lewis’ technique forced quite a few errors hitting the ball with his shoulder like he is being coached in training. Bryn was fearless in defence and when he connected with the players you could hear the collision. we loved your determination today.

Would also like to mention Ellis Carsley as we can see you getting better each week and doing what we ask of you keeping hold of the ball and running straight and hard. You also made some good tackles today. Keep it up ellis it isn’t going un-noticed.

We would like to thank all the parents for coming today and all our coaches who do work none stop making sure that all the kids get a game without them none of this would be possible.

Thanks to all our volunteers who helped today we appreciate all your hard work.
