Pilkington Recs 32-6 Wigan St.Judes
This weeks fixture started with Lewis putting up a high hanging kick that was very nearly regained, Rhys and Aidan started the first defensive set with a huge tackle followed up by a good defensive effort from monty and Emily with Rhys and Kieron forcing the attacking Wigan St Judes player into touch.
Logan brought the ball away from the scrum with a lovely little inside drop off to Kristian who double pumped two dummy passes before offloading the ball to Aidan who dove low at the line for the opening try and lead 4-0
Pilks turned to defence and some strong group tackles forced an early Wigan knock on, Ellis drove the ball back at the St.Judes line before a quick scoot from dummy half by Aidan came up with his second try of the day under the sticks to extend the lead to 8-0
Again Logan linking up with Lewis this time with some strong defence forced another early Wigan knock on. Logan quickly turned his attention to attacking, managing to keep his hands free in the tackle to get an offload away. Lewis put a kick up but Kieran was bundled into touch from the catch.
Jude’s spread the ball through the hands for four tackles before putting a kick up under some excellent pressure on the kicker by Dylan Finney. Recs brought the ball back with a probing run from Rhys to set up some good field position, Harry then broke the tackle to put Pilks in striking distance, Lewis threw a dummy before spreading the ball to Kristian but a panic pass to ground turned over possession.
Pilks kept up their defensive pattern by regaining the ball on the first tackle when a powerful group tackle by Rhys, Dylan Greenall and Monty forced the judes player into touch. Ben made a huge charge up the field, Lewis popped up a perfect ball to Dylan Greenall before the ball was spread wide to Rhys on the wing, Rhys beat a hand full of defenders to get over the line but a suspected bobble on the grounding saw the try chalked off.
St.Judes again offered up a good set with a kick on the last, Logan brought the ball back at pace and again managed to offload in the tackle, this time to Harry who got the ball to Lewis. Lewis then provided a beautifully weighted kick into the in goal area for Dan to pick up and score and then convert to take the score to 14-0
Emily and Ethan were first in for the tackle as Judes pressed and again some keen defence forced the Wigan error to regain possession, Ben took the first drive and was very difficult to stop as always, Pilks threw a long hanging pass which a sharp St.Judes player picked out of the air and ran 60 yards to score an interception try and convert at the end of the half to go in at 14-6
Pilks started the second half strong with a couple of quick play the balls and a line break by Harry to run in a quick try to extend the score line to 18-6
Recs backed up the try with a very strong defensive set, Aidan pulled off three one on one tackles, pushing the attacking player back each time. Lewis and Logan made another big tackle and Dylan Finney again piled the pressure on the kicker.
Pilks played some ‘hot potato’ rugby as the ball went through every pair of hands, a silky smooth blind pass from Rhys for Harry to barge over extended the score again with Kristian converting to take it to 24-6
Again a powerful defence forced the Judes ball carrier into touch, Ethan brought the ball away from the scrum, passed to Lewis, Lewis to Dylan Greenall and Dylan hit the line at speed to run the ball under the posts for a 28-6 score line.
Jude’s couldn’t seem to keep hold of the ball and a knock on handed possession back again, Zak had a strong drive up field and beat the first line of defence to set up a good position. Lewis tried an early kick on the second tackle but unfortunately found the side line.
Pilks showed no sign of tiring as George made a bone rattling tackle followed by Rhys forcing the next drive backwards and then Monty, Ethan, Emily and Ethan tackling the attacking player into touch.
Recs settled the game with four drives and a kick that fell over the dead ball line.
Jude’s looked like adding to their score as they broke the Pilks line for the first time and sprinted away down field, only for Dylan Greenall to chase down and stop a certain try. Another strong one on one tackle from Rhys and some great pressure yet again from Dylan Finney saw the ball come loose with Dylan Finney quick to react and dive on the loose ball.
A quick play and pass to Dylan Greenall in space sent him flying in for his second try of the day, ending the match 32-6 to the red, amber and blacks.
